Nghe Temple is
situated in the centre of Haiphong, about 600m south-west of the
Municipal Theatre.
The temple is devoted to the cult of Le Chan, a female general of
the famous Trung sisters' insurrection against the Chinese in the
first century (40-43). She established the settlement of An Bien
Village, the predecessor to Haiphong.
Previously the temple was only a small shrine, but by 1926 the
existing structure was built. It is a historical vestige comprising
stone elephants, horses, ornate beds and buildings. |
